Today was our first day in New Orleans, we arrived at the city around noon and after a quick orientation, drove headfirst into our service learning. We met up with a Hamline alumni, Tony, who was leading a project with a few eighth graders to document parts of the city that remained abandoned. The students were given cameras to record those parts of the city, by both taking pictures and videos that showcased their feelings in the matter. Our role in this was to, in turn, take pictures of the students as they were reflecting on the areas around them. The finished product will be shown to various people such as officials of the city, in hopes that more proactive action will be taken in repairing New Orleans.
We're looking forward to more eye-opening experiences such as these.
